I was shocked to say I enjoyed the quiet time with the music in the background and the very soothing voice of that gentleman though my arms and hands never seemed to get warm or heavy. I'm not sure if this is in direct conflict with the idea of the relaxation assignment but I seem to get more relaxed, distressed, and level headed after activities such as working out in the gym, training on the beach, golfing, and surfing are my first four choices to help me relax. I do have to admit that I must work hard to keep an open mind about meditation and the power of suggestion. I want it to work for me and I always wonder if perhaps I'm just not believing it fully so therefor it won't work for me. This relaxation assignment was a start and I'll keep making an effort.

Mike,
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how a soothing voice and relaxing music can completely change an individuals thoughts and behaviors. I know I was more relaxed and felt less stressed after listening to the recording. I hope this is something that I can build in my own life to help continue to reduce stress in my life and find a deeper connection between my mind and body.
Mike,
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to find the type of meditation that I could do without finding myself thinking of all the other things that were going on in my head. You may need to just try a different one. There is a good one where he takes you for a walk on a beach and you are looking a different colors. You said you like to surf so maybe that might work better for you.
When you work out you are releasing those corticosteroids that are built up from the stress of your day so that is possible why you feel better. Working out is a great meditation in itself as you are focused on one thing. I know when I run I find myself in a reflection state. It clears my mind in the same way meditation does.
Keep up the effort you just might grow to enjoy it.
